CC1 - Sem 2, Week 7: Performance Sequencing (1)

An onboard keyboard sequencer is what I started on, so I am familiar with restrictive practise.

An 'Ableton Live' virgin, I enjoyed delving into this great software. Something different and I now understand why the word 'live' is in the name. Perfect for gigs, bring on the laptop.

When working restrictively;

1/ Choose sounds wisely: Any clips you are unlikely to use are taking up valuable space (and computing power!). Be brutal, replace with something choice!

2/ Arrange samples in a functional manner:
For example, if you want to mix two percussion clips from different scenes, pointless having them on the same track (as only one clip can play on a track at a time).

* 'Session View'. Bases loaded and the 'THTF Virus seq' clip playing in position 3, track 1.

For me? I didn't use any scenes. For improvisational ease, I filled all 16 clip slots with clips I liked, played around with getting them in 'functional' positions (ie: playable in a real-time scenario with any 'set' combinations available), hit record and jammed.

I recorded one of many permutations. We have a backward high hat clip and effects added to Track 1 (Ping-Pong) and Track 3 (Flanger). There may be a couple of other tweaks in there also.
