CC1 - Sem 2, Week 10: Integrated Setup (2)
Lot of questions answered this week and much exploration. I could be totally wrong, but I’m figuring I record the sonic outcome, as a whole; output of Live, Plogue and anything else I may have patched in – the Performance mix. But I also need to (rather, want to) record the instrument input only, process in Live and play back as part of the performance (which would then, of course, be routed to the Performance Recorder). Hmmm.
I had attempted unsuccessfully to get Ableton Live and Plogue working together. Rewire not was happening but confused about what goes where. Not this time round. Thanks to the demo in class I had a clear concept of what gives. Totally different from what I’d been imagining, but Christian, you are right: It is lightning fast to record in Plogue, open Live and have it prepped with the right folder open in the left column, then drop the sample you recorded a microsecond ago right in the slot and commence warp. Truly marvellous. I thought you somehow wired out from Plogue and (Italics) recorded analogue directly into a Live track (slot)(), then played it back through Plogue. This way is entirely better (for this situation) and opens many possibilities. Again, remember Daz, keep it simple ... !
In this week’s example I have guitar input to my creation, ‘2 x 3 Oscillators, Flanger and Good Time LFO’. I’d tested a few things out before, but was ready to record a performance with my double-recorder concept. And happy to announce it worked sweetly and is the way to go for me. Add effects groups (until I run out of processing clout) into channels of mixer selecting with ‘Solo’ toggle box. I’m approaching the computer like an instrument and look forward to meeting up with the trombonist next weekend and bouncing some ideas for the project on my new electro-instrument! The real fun part is, this one just keeps on evolving.
Getting warmer. How things pan (!) out a matter of processing power and planning.
